READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Jeremiah 44, Psalms 89.38-52
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Jeremiah 44 Psalms 89

Jeremiah 44
The conquest of Egypt was prophesied by Jeremiah. This was fulfilled when Nebuchadnezzar invaded Egypt in 568-567 B.C. Egypy was similar in a rebellious attitude as Judah and was quickly subdued by the Babylonians.

Jeremiah was forced into Egypt against his will. He prophesied that there would be calamity on the Jews in Egypt.

Application:
Why is it that the Jews in Egypt did not learn from the mistakes of the people of Judah. The reason for the calamity was because of idolatry. Why is it that we don't learn from the sins of others and obey God? Do you know why there are prophecies before the actual fulfilment. There are warning of things that will happen so that there is a chance to repent. Remember mercy precedes judgement.

Verses to meditate on:
10 'If you stay in this land, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you, for I am grieved over the disaster I have inflicted on you. 11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now fear. Do not be afraid of him, declares the LORD, for I am with you and will save you and deliver you from his hands. 12 I will show you compassion so that he will have compassion on you and restore you to your land.'

Psalm 89, with Commentaries, verse by verse
Psalm 89.14-37 speaks about David and the covenant he made with him and his descendants. God was faithful to David and his descendants. Are we faithful to Him?

Verses to meditate on:
47 Remember how fleeting is my life.
For what futility you have created all men!

48 What man can live and not see death,
or save himself from the power of the grave [e] ?
Selah
