READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY
Today's Reading is Isaiah 44.1-5
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 44
Isaiah 44.1-5
Israel the chosen v. 1-5
The servant here is Israel whom God has chosen.. Notice the phrase ‘do not fear’ (v. 3) because just as God pours water on a dry and thirsty land, which will spring like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing stream, so will he pour out His Spirit on Israel’s offspring and give his blessings to their descendants. We see this happening in Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost and three thousand people got saved. This was a partial fulfillment. In the future, the Spirit will be poured on Israel and they will acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah. Are we thirsty, knowing that we lived in a spiritually parched land. .
We need to be filled and refreshed by Jesus Christ. He said in John 7.37: “…If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink, 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scriptures has said, streams of living waters will flow from within him. 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit has not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
