Today's Reading is Isaiah 44.6-28; Psalms 58
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 44; Psalms 58
Isaiah 44.6-28
Isaiah is comparing God with idols. He started off by saying that God is Israel's King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty. I am the first and the last apart from me there is no other God. These are qualifications to be God!!! Do your idols or gods in your life have these qualifications?
He then discusses how idols are made. Even today, we have people who worship idols, these include the Buddhists and the Hindus. There is even veneration of saints! Isaiah was mocking the person who made an idol from wood. he uses half of the wood to make the idol and the other half he uses as firewood to cook his food. (v. 16-20). Today we are MORE civilized, we do not worship idols made from human hands or gods? We need to define what a 'god' or 'idol' is. An idol is a person, place, thing, desire that replaces the kingship of Jesus Christ in my life! This could be your job, family, ambition, pleasure, addictions, even church and Christian service. Some of these are not bad to have in our lives but we need to seek first God's Kingdom and His righteousness, then everything else will fall in place. The Apostle John said in 1 John 5.21 'Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.'

Isaiah 43 with Commentaries, verse by verse
Psalm 58 with Commentaries, verse by verse
This psalm is a prayer of David asking for God, the Supreme Judge, to right the wrongs of the corrupted rulers and protecting the righteous. In verses 1-5, David spoke against evil judges. In verses 6-8 David asked God to get rid of these corrupt judges. In verse 9-11, David is assured that these judges will them selves be judged by the Supreme Judge Himself. Do you feel overwhelmed by the injustice in the world and how criminals get set free so easily? Well, one day all wrongs will be made right by the Supreme Judge Himself. We fool ourselves in thinking that God is a God of love and all He does is love. Well, when Jesus returns, he is coming back as Judge and King! What do you think? How should this impact your life today?
