Jeremiah 21
Zedekiah sent for jeremiah to inquire of the Lord because Nebuchadnezzar was attacking them. The Lord rejected Zedekiah because he was an evil king. He told Zedekiah that they should surrender to Babylon, their lives would be spared. God had rejected Zedekiah and the people of Jerusalem.
Application:
It is hard to understand God's ways, to humble oneself and to do somtehing that would be so strange and unheard of, this is how we choose life. God's way's is paradoxical. To gain your life, you have to lose it. Let us learn from Zedekiah and the people of Jerusalem, NOT to make the mistake the made because they chose what they thought made sense (from a human point of view).
Verses to meditate on:
8 "Furthermore, tell the people, 'This is what the LORD says: See, I am setting before you the way of life and the way of death. 9 Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague. But whoever goes out and surrenders to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; he will escape with his life. 10 I have determined to do this city harm and not good, declares the LORD. It will be given into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he will destroy it with fire.'

Jeremiah 21 with Commentaries, verse by verse
Psalm 79, with Commentaries, verse by verse
This is a psalm of Asaph and is a prayer for God's judgement on the nations that have invaded Israel (v. 1-7). Asaph has also asked for forgiveness (v. 9). This is a verse for us to remember - 9 Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the honor of your name. Oh, save us and forgive our sins for the sake of your name.
