Isaiah 42.1-9
Let us look at these verses. Who is the Servant of the Lord? It is Jesus the Messiah. Is this speaking of His first or second coming. The passage seems to be speaking primarily of his first coming. The verses in Isaiah 41.1-4 is wuoted in part in Matthew 12.18-21. This is the first of the Servant Songs (There are four Servant songs: Isaiah 42.1-9 49.1-6; Isaiah 50.4-11 and 52.12-53.12). These verses (1-9) speak of His ministry, gentleness, compassion. He has the authority and help from God in the accomplishment of His ministry. This passage also speak about his second coming when he establish justice on earth. He has created a covenant, the New Covenant symbolized in the Lord supper with bread and wine as the elements symbolizing His death for us. He is a light to the Gentiles, and by His death has freed us from the captivity of sin.
