READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Isaiah 49.1-7

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 49

Isaiah 49.1-7
This is the second of the Servant Songs. The Servant here does not apply to the nation of Israel, rather it applies to Jesus Christ, the Messiah (verse 5). Note the prophecy applies to 'you island' and 'you distant nations' which are the foreign nations, the Gentile nations. Verse 6 is the verse to meditate on today:
6 he says:
"It is too small a thing for you to be my servant
to restore the tribes of Jacob
and bring back those of Israel I have kept.
I will also make you a light for the Gentiles,
that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth."

also the other mission of the Messiah is in verse 5: 'to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord and my God has been my strength.
