Psalm 74
This a maskil of Asaph.This is a prayer for God to rescue his people and defend his cause from mocking of His enemies. (v. 3-8). This was apparently the Babylonians whos had destroyed the Temple in 538 B.C.. In v. 9-11 Asaph complains again to God and he renew his prayer..In verses. 13-17 He remembers the Lord is awesome and is the mighty God of creation and salvation.. In v. 18-23 A prayer to God to defend His cause and restore his people.. Ps 74:22 Arise, O God, plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily. (NKJV) We need to see God do this today. Men has no regard for him and ignore him, blaspheme and mock Him.

Today's Reading is Jeremiah 3
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Jeremiah 3

In Jeremiah 3
Jeremiah continues speaking about how israel has forsaken God and becomes a prostitute.(v. 1-5)

In v. 6-25
Threee times God appeals to unfaithful Israel to return to Him (v. 12, 14, 22). He was prepared to show them mercy if they truly repented of their sins.

From Jeremiah 2, verses to meditate on:
12 Go, proclaim this message toward the north:
" 'Return, faithless Israel,' declares the LORD,
'I will frown on you no longer,
for I am merciful,' declares the LORD,
'I will not be angry forever.

13 Only acknowledge your guilt—
you have rebelled against the LORD your God,
you have scattered your favors to foreign gods
under every spreading tree,
and have not obeyed me,' "
declares the LORD.

14 "Return, faithless people," declares the LORD, "for I am your husband. I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion

22 "Return, faithless people;
I will cure you of backsliding."
"Yes, we will come to you,

Today's Reading is Jeremiah 2; Psalms 72

Jeremiah 2
Jeremiah condemns Judah for her sins. Judah was in apostasy. Judah was symbolized as been in marriage with God. She had been unfaithful to her husband God and has become a prostitute following after false gos.

Verses to meditate on:

13 "My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Are we like Judah, at times. We forsake God and look for our own pleasures and sins and have prostituted ourselves.

This is a prayer for the king a son of David, who rules on David's throne as God's earthly king over Israel in justice and righteousness. The psalm was for or of Solomon. Even so more a son of David, Jesus Christ is king and will rule the world in righteousness and justice. READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Jeremiah 1
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Jeremiah 1

Jeremiah 1 speaks about the call of Jeremiah
Verses to meditate on:

4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew [a] you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

6 "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."

7 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.

We are comforted that God know each of us completely and encourages us like Jeremiah and Moses.

The almond tree and the boiling pot from the north were visions of the kingdom of Babylon which would invade Judah in Jeremiah's life time.

READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Isaiah 66.17-24; Psalms 71
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 65 Psalms 71

Isaiah 66.22-23 speaks about the New Heavens and the New Earth. This relates to the Messianic Kingdom and is parallel in content to Revelation 21 Only the righteous will enter the New Heavens and the New Earth. (v. 17-18)

Isaiah ends on a joyful ending for the believer with a description of what the Kingsom will be like for them. There is a tragic ending for the unbelievers in verse 24: "And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind."

This is a psalm for God's help in old age (verse 9, 18) when the enemies of David are threatening him when David strength is waning. READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Isaiah 66.1-16
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 66.1-16

Isaiah 65.1-16 deals with Judgement and Hope
The Lord God is speaking here. He is speaking from heaven which is His throne, and earth is His footstool. In light of this we should bow down and worship God. He wants those who worship Him in spirt and truth, not only by pious words that they say but by the actions of their lives.

Verse to meditate on:
2 Has not my hand made all these things,
and so they came into being?"
declares the LORD.
"This is the one I esteem:
he who is humble and contrite in spirit,
and trembles at my word.

We must tremble and fear and reverence God. We see very little of that in our churches today.

10 "Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her,
all you who love her;
rejoice greatly with her,
all you who mourn over her.

11 For you will nurse and be satisfied
at her comforting breasts;
you will drink deeply
and delight in her overflowing abundance."

12 For this is what the LORD says:
"I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream;
you will nurse and be carried on her arm
and dandled on her knees.

13 As a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."

Today's Reading is Isaiah 65.1-16
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 65

Isaiah 65.1-16 deals with Judgement and Salvation.
God is speaking here. He reaches out to people who did not know him. We could see this being fulfilled in Acts and today. God is reaching out to the Gentile Nations (v. 1). The people of Judah has been obstinant and has rejected God (v. 2-5). God will judge Judah, we see the invasion of Judah 536 B.C. by the Babylonians.

Verse to meditate on:)

I was found by those who did not seek me.
To a nation that did not call on my name,
I said, 'Here am I, here am I.'

Today's Reading is Isaiah 64; Psalms 69
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 64 Psalms 69

Isaiah 64
The section on Praise and Prayer continues (Isaiah 63.7-64.12)

Verses to meditate on:
6 All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

7 No one calls on your name
or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us
and made us waste away because of our sins.

Do we realize what oour sinful nature really is? Isaiah expressed it in these verses. We need to realize our sinfulness by knowing and understanding the holiness of God. We can be righteous by the fact that God was satisfied when Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

This is a well known Psalm. David is asking God for mercy to deliver him from his enemies. Who do we go to when we are in trouble? It should be to God. He is our Rock, Refuge and Fortress.

69.19-36
Psalm 69 is also prophetic about the crucifixion. in verse 19-20, prophecied about Jesus scorned and mocked. In v. 21 'they put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst.' The verse that spoke to me today was 'I am in pain and distress, may your salvation, O God, protect me.' This spoke about the agony that Jesus went through on the cross.

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,

2To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,

The NIV Study Bible call this psalm a processional liturgy celebrating the glorious and triumphant rule of Israel's God. The start of the procession v. 1-3; Can you see God coming in victory over his enemies? We don't like to think of God that way. We like to think of Him as the God of Love but He is a holy God and is also a God of righteousness. We, who are Christians should be happy and joyful (v. 3). I love verse 5 'A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.' James 1:27 (New King James Version): Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. There are many more stuff to read in today's Psalm, enjoy!

Isaiah 59 deals with sin, confession and redemption. We need to realize that our sins have separated us from God. We need to confess it with sincerity and with true repentance, we must be willing to change and make a 180 degrees turn in our living. An example of true repentance is found in Saul of Tarsus. Before Christ came into his life he was destroying churches. After he met the Lord on the road to Damascus he was building churches. He had experience redemption. Paul quoted in 2 Corinthians 5.17 Thereore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.

True fasting (including worship and devotion to God) woould be true religion as deined by James in James 1.27 keeping oneself pure and taking care of orphans and widows. One's life need to reflect what one believes. It is easy to talk the talk BUT to walk the walk, that is a different story.

This psalm is asking God to bless them them and make His ways known to man. It is also a psalm of praise of praise to God. Verse 1 spoke to me today, May God be graciour to us and bless us and make His face to shine upon us. This reminds me of the blessing that Aaron bless the people with in Num 6.23-34. We should also bless God!! We have always said that God bless America. I think we got that backwards we should say AMERICA BLESS GOD!

Isaiah 53.4-12
Who is the Messiah, it is Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World, who was crucified for us. It is NOT Israel who is the suffering servant. Here is a link to opposing view

Verses to meditate on:

Isaiah 53
The Sin-Bearing Messiah
1 Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
2For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
8He was taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9And they[a] made His grave with the wicked--
But with the rich at His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
10Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
11He shall see the labor of His soul,[b] and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.
12Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors.

Psalm 64.1-10 with Commentaries, verse by verse

This is a psalm of David. This was a prayer of protection against conspiracy against David. Do you realise that we are also in a spritual battle, every moments of our lives. We have three enemies. The first one within, the flesh, sarx, and outside of us the world system with its values and the devil. We do have enemies who hate the Gospel, and Jesus Christ we need to pray for their salvation. Let us be assured that God knows how to take care of His own. The verse of comfort fo me is verse 10. READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Isaiah 52.13-53.3

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 52; Isaiah 53

The section Isaiah 52.13-53.12 deals with the suffering and the glory of the Servant.
The Seravnt is the Lord Jesus. The Jews have only thought of the Messiah as the King and the Conqueror. When Jesus was on aerth, the Jews were under the occupation of Rome and when Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, they had expected Him to overthrow the Romans in a miltary coup. When He entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, he rode on a donkey rather than on a military stallion! The Jews have never interpreted this passage as the suffering of their Messiah!
When I read this passage I tremble! Jesus was exalted through His suffering! This is a very hard conecpt for us to accept. Many were appalled to see Him duing his suffering before he was crucified. Pilate had hoped that scourging would appease the Jews in releasing Him. Instead we knew that he was scourged and mock, spit upon and wore a crown of thorns. His face was beaten to a pulp, he was bloodied, it was so horrific that we could not recognize Him!
He did this for you and for me. He suffered and died so that we could live. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5.21: God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Let us meditate on Isaiah 52.13: See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. (NIV). Jesus was raised and lifted up literally on the cross but He is also raised, lifted up and exalted because of His obedience to the Father. Let us realise that everything in the Cjristian Life is base on TRUST and OBEDIENCE. Let us learn from the Perfect Servant how to live a life that is pleasing to God.

READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Isaiah 52.1-12; Psalms 63
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 52; Psalms 63

Isaiah 52.1-12
God is encouraging the remnant with words of comfort. They were to cloth themselves with strength and garments of splendor. Jersusalem will be restored and only those who are holy will enter into it (v. 3-4). They will remember and know His name though they were oppressed by the Assyrians and the Egyptians.

Verse to meiditate on:

7 How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
"Your God reigns!"

How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him
who brings good news, good news!
Announcing peace, proclaiming news of happiness
Our God reigns, our God reigns!
Refrain:
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
He had no stately form, He had no majesty
That we should be drawn to Him.
He was despised and we took no account of Him
Yet now He reigns with the Most High.
Refrain
It was our sin and guilt that bruised and wounded Him
It was our sin that brought Him down
When we like sheep had gone astray, Our Shepherd came
And on His shoulders bore our shame.
Refrain
Meek as a lamb that's led out to the slaughter-house,
Dumb as a sheep before its sheerer
His life ran down upon the ground like pouring rain
That we might be born again.
Refrain
Out from the tomb He came with grace and majesty;
He is alive, He is alive!
God loves us so, see here His hands, His feet, His side.
Yes, we know He is alive!
Refrain

This psalm is a psalm of David, when he was in the Desert of Judah (2Samuel 15.23-28; 16.2, 14; 17:16, 29). Have you ever been in a desert without water? I love verse 1 O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Water is good for you, it quenches your thirst. Jesus said to the Samaritan woman at well that He could give her water, that would quench her deepest longing. We read in Psalm 42.1 about the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God

READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Isaiah 51.1-16; Psalms 62

Isaiah 51.1-16
There were three admonitions given to the remnant of Israel. (v. 1-3) Look back; v. 4-6, look ahead; v. 7-8 look within. Look back and see your spiritual roots, Abraham and Sarah were examples to look at. We need to look ahead optimistically at the works of God and His grace for us. We need to look within ourselves, what is right and the law written on our hearts. God's righteousness last forever while man's reproach is only here for a while, like vapor.
v. 9 Awake, awake is for the arousing of the Lord. God answered the remnant's prayer with comfort (v. 12-16). We need to remember who God is! Verses ro meditate: v. 12 I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that fear mortal men, the sons of men, who are but grass, 13 that you forget the Lord your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, that you live in constant terror every day because of the wrath of the opressor, who is bent on destruction? For where is the wrath of the opressor?

We need to know who God is and who man is. God is the Creator, Almighty, All-knowing, All-powerful, He is everywhere.

READING LIST FOR POETRY AND PROPHECY

Today's Reading is Isaiah 50

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links:Isaiah 50

Isaiah 50
Israel was married to God. God would send away Israel to Babylon because of her sins. God was reaching out to Israel but she did not respond. it was not that God was powerless to help her but it was because her sins have separated her from God.

This is the third of the Servant Songs. (4-11) The Servant here does not apply to the nation of Israel, rather it applies to Jesus Christ, the Messiah. The prophecy speaks about the Messiah's first coming and the suffering that He would undergo to save us from our sins. The Song spoke about the scourging that Jesus would undergo, the mocking and pain. Yet despite the sufferings Jesus was determined to deal with the pain because He put His trust in God.

Let us meditate on verse 10: Who among you fears the LORD and obeys his servant? If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the LORD and rely on your God. (New Living Translation).

Isaiah 49.8-26
Israel will be restored in the future. We have seen a return to Israel under Zerubbabel, Ezra and Nehemiah. We also see a return after World War II, in May 1948. But Israel will be finally restored during the Millenial Kingdom and the return of Christ. Though Israel has faced desolation, she will be restored.

Verse to meditate on:

This psalm is a prayer of David. According to the NIV Study Bible, it was a prayer of restoration to God' presence. The verse that spoke to me today is verse 3 'For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.' Foe for David were actual human beings. We might have human beings as foes, but we have discouragement, disappointment, disillusionment and other things that we face in life. We should be encouraged that God is a strong tower and we can put our hope and trust in Him.
